The Hideaway is like no static caravan you’ve ever seen.
Back in 2010, when we first moved back to the Highlands to run Big Sky, this little caravan was our home. We lived here for several years — even with our first baby — before building our house. Once we moved out, it became a much-loved retreat for our guests.
By 2026, the old caravan was looking a little worn, so we stripped it right back to the bones and undertook a full restoration.
Hand-built by Jonny, the Hideaway takes its inspiration from the Scottish landscape and traditional Highland croft houses and bothies. Inside, you’ll find wood-panelled walls, handmade and reclaimed furniture, a collection of local and Scottish art.
We wanted to create an inspiring retreat where guests can hunker down when the Highland weather rolls in, light the fire, pour yourself a dram and settle in with a good book. Somewhere to read, write, draw, paint, listen to music — or simply watch the trees. The bedroom is calm space, with whitewashed panelling, a comfortable king-size bed and a dressing table with a mirror that doubles as a desk — ideal for preparing for your day, or sitting down to write your novel. There are fluffy towels and a beautifully designed shower.
The kitchen is fully equipped for everything from a simple breakfast to a Highland feast, with an old church pew and reclaimed timber table for long, relaxed meals. The living room is the heart of the space, with its wood-burning stove, books, art and leafy woodland views all around. Outside, there’s a little garden with seating and a fire pit — ideal for morning coffee or an evening under the stars. And beyond the garden, you might spot our Highland coos grazing in the field.
The Hideaway is next to our own house, so you might hear our young family playing in the garden, but we will give you plenty of peace and privacy during your stay. The Hideaway is accessed by a few steps, and the hallway and shower room are quite small, so if you have mobility issues you may wish to look at our other cabins instead.
